The Procession of the Holy Blood photographed
Reportage & event photography, Bruges, Belgium
The Procession of the Holy Blood, established in 1304, is focusing on the suffering of Jesus Christ. Over 1800 participants engage in singing, music, dancing, and acting, reminiscent of the Burgundian era. Recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO in 2009, this event continues to inspire the city. I captured its breathtaking beauty in a vibrant, colorful style that reflects the celebration's glamorous spirit .Sander has a profound passion for capturing reenacted events that celebrate cultural heritage, an enthusiasm that resonates deeply with the rich tapestry of history found in Belgium. The country’s vibrant festivals, meticulously preserved traditions, and the storytelling potential of its historic sites provide him with an endless source of inspiration. Each photographic endeavor allows him to weave together narratives that honor the past while engaging audiences in the present. Belgium, with its diverse cultural expressions and dedication to preserving its legacy, serves as a perfect backdrop for Sander's artistic vision, making every shoot a rewarding journey into the heart of cherished traditions.
My reportage photography uses flash to shape the urban environment, inspired by famous street photographers.like Bruce Gilden or Martin Parr; Each carefully composed shot captures the raw energy of city life, highlighting moments often missed in the daily rush. With a sharp eye for detail and a love for candid scenes, This way I turn ordinary events into compelling visual stories. The flash creates a dramatic contrast that enhances storytelling, uncovering emotions and connections in the street's chaos. This approach reflects the vibrant and complex nature of urban life, capturing both the remarkable and the everyday in thought-provoking images.
